Passaic River Bridges Remain Closed Today

A flood warning is still in effect for the Passaic River.

Two Passaic River bridges remain closed today as roadways nearby continue to be covered in water.

The river's waters have spilled onto Bridge Avenue and Central Avenue, and on Central Avenue, a Volvo remains stuck in floodwaters. Township Police Lt. William Behre said Monday that the bridges could reopen closer to the end of the week.

The National Weather Service has not yet rescinded its flood warning for the river. As of 8:15 a.m., the Passaic was at 7.7 feet. It is considered to be at flood stage when it hits six feet.
