Letters From Margaret Smizaski's Daughters, Friends

The letters were read at Smizaski's funeral Mass.

This letter was written by Nicole Smizaski, Margaret Smizaski's 11-year old daughter. It was read at the funeral Mass at Corpus Christi Church on Saturday by Margaret's friend Nancy Mattern.

This is a letter to mom up in heaven.

The important thing I want you to know is that I'll always love you and I miss you so much. I've been praying for you the last few days. I still have like a hundred questions to ask you, but I might never find the answers. I hope you are safe in heaven with your wonderful dad, Chester, and your cute dog, Goldie. From now on, I know I will have to take way more responsibility, and try not to fight with Alexis. The day I found out about the fire, I cried. Not about the house, but I just wanted to see you. Mom, the last time I saw you was when I said good-bye and you dropped me off at school. At least now I know anything can happen at anytime. The day I found out, I was shocked. I thought I was in a dream—a bad one. There are thousands of more things I want to say, but I already said it in my prayers. Mom, I remembered how you wanted to light a candle for the family to be safe-around Easter Sunday, and there was only one candle left, and it was broken. Well, I just lit that one today, and it's working.

I love you so much. I'll love you forever. One day, mom, I'll be up there with you in heaven. Everyone goes sometime. It wasn't time for you to go, but God allowed it. Mom, I'll remember you and love you for the rest of my life. You were the best mom in the world and you still are.

Mommy is so sweet. She's always been in my heart. I love her … I love her. No one can stop me from loving her. I love her.

Kirsten Mattern, Nancy Mattern's eight-year old daughter, wrote this song for Margaret Smizaski, and she and Alexis Smizaski sang it at the funeral Mass.
