How to Have a Birthday Twice a Year? Become Cookie Monster

Fine weather is predicted Wednesday, with sunshine, a slight breeze and a high of 81. So, naturally, the schools have all scheduled indoor events. To find out more, check out the Five Things You Need to Know Today:

  1. You need to know about Chatham High School: Open campus is closed at today due to the Lafayette Head Show.
  2. You need to know about art: Students at can show off their artwork to their adoring parents … erm, public … in the Student Art Exhibit Opening from 5 to 7 p.m.
  3. You need to know about the Lafayette Head Show: You can se e the fourth and fifth graders perform “The Wizard of Oz” at 9:30 a.m. or 7 p.m. at the auditorium at .
  4. You need to know about meetings: The Colony Pool committee meets at the pool at 7:30 p.m. to go over the opening this weekend, and the Zoning Board of the borough meets at the at 7:30 p.m.
  5. You need to know about today’s unusual holidays: May 25 has a cornucopia of holidays to choose from! For the serious-minded individual, May 25 is World Multiple Sclerosis Day, National Missing Children’s Day and National Senior Health and Fitness Day.

If you seek a little gaity out of these odd holidays, May 25 is also National Tap Dance Day, Towel Day (in which one carries a towel around everywhere, per the instructions of Douglas Adams in “Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”); Nerd or Geek Pride Day (celebrated because this is the anniversary of when the original Star Wars film was released in theaters); and Frank Oz’s birthday. Mr. Oz, no relation to the Wizard of, is a puppeteer who gave life to Cookie Monster,  whose birthday is celebrated twice a year, once on May 25 and once on November 2.
