Community Garden, Farmers Market and Township Committee Meetings Thursday

School elections may be over, but there are still plenty of municipal committees that Chathamites can turn their attention to. To find out more, check out the Five Things You Need to Know Today:

  1. You need to know about helping Japan: Studets will be selling T-shirts at Chatham High during the lunch hour to help raise money for Japan.
  2. You need to know about community gardens and farmers markets: The Community Garden Committee and the Farmers Market Advisory Committee both meet Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the Chatham Borough Municipal Building.
  3. You need to know about the Holocaust: And Chatham High students can find out during the Holocaust Remembrance Ceremony Thursday at 12:30 p.m.
  4. You need to know about township business: The Chatham Township Committee meets Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the Chatham Township Municipal Building.
  5. You need to know about this day in history: Lots of interesting things have happened on April 28 in history, such as:
  • In 1503 gunpowder helped the Spanish win the Battle of Cerignola against the French, the first time firearms helped to decidedly win a battle.
  • In 1611 the University of Santo Tomas, the largest Catholic university in the world, was established in the Phillippines.
  • In 1788 Maryland became the seventh state to ratify the Constitution.
  • In 1932 a vaccine for yellow fever was unveiled.
  • In 1944, American and British soldiers were attacked by the Germans during a practice round for the invasion of Normandy.
  • In 1945 Benito Mussolini died before a firing squad at the end of World War II.
