Cinco de Mayo is Holiday Time

And other essential information to get you through your Thursday, May 5, 2011.

The girls softball team from Chatham High School plays in the Morris County Tournament semifinals Thursday at 7 p.m. against West Morris Central. For some other happenings around town this May 5, check out the Five Things You Need to Know Today:

  1. You need to know about AP exams: English Literature and Japanese Language & Culture students take their Advanced Placement exams at on Thursday at 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., respectively
  2. You need to know what to expect from divorce: The offers a Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
  3. You need to know about preservation: The Land & Historic Conservancy Committee meets at the at 7:30 p.m.
  4. You need to know about your town: Or rather, about “Our Town.” The cast and crew from the high school’s fall production are at Montclair State University, which begins Thursday at 7 p.m.
  5. You need to know about Cinco de Mayo: Commonly (and mistakenly) known as Mexico’s Independence Day, Cinco de Mayo commemorates the victory of 4,000 Mexican soldiers over an invading French force of 8,000 in the Battle of Puebla in 1862.
