Chatham Still Recovering from Irene

Road closures and power outages still an issue.

Nearly a week after caused , downed trees, and power outages throughout Chatham, some residents are still recovering.

Chatham Borough Mayor Nelson Vaughan rescinded the Declaration of a State of Emergency in the borough Friday morning with less than 100 Chatham residents still without power.

went without telephones, internet or electricity four days this week. An Open House for parents scheduled Thursday was canceled when the school was still without any power. Teachers reported to the media lab at Chatham High School for their first inservice day Thursday. Power returned Thursday afternoon.

According to JCP&L, 69 Chatham residents remain without power as of 8:51 a.m. Friday. A further 138 customers in Green Village, which includes portions of Chatham Township, Madison and Harding, are also without power.

Chatham Borough released a list of three roads still closed from Hurricane Irene. Fairfax Terrace, River Road and Lackawanna Place remain impassable, and residents are advised to find another route. John Pacelli, the head of Chatham Township's Department of Public Works, said he believes all roads in the township are open as of Friday morning.
