Chatham Mayor: Water Main Fixed, Service Restored

Crews worked overnight Friday on fix.

Water service should be restored to any Chatham borough residents affected by a Friday night water main break on Main Street, Mayor Nelson Vaughan said.

The mayor said Department of Public Works head Bob Venezia has informed him crews worked through the night on the problem, and don't expect and further service issues.

Resident Kristina Pasko told Patch that the water at her home was a pale yellow Saturday, but the mayor said anyone still having issues should run his or her water for just a few minutes—and the water should return to its normal color quickly. He said there has been no impact on water quality.

Vaughan said Venezia and his department are well-equipped to deal with water main breaks. Vaughan said he's "constantly amazed" at how frequently they happen, and noted the pipes that run through Chatham are more than 100 years old.
