Chatham Library Helps Job Hunters

Seminars scheduled on job hunting, resume writing and interviewing like a pro.

The Library of the Chathams will host three events for job seekers in the coming months, starting Sept. 29.

Representatives from Tutor.com will teach skills for job hunting, writing a resume and interviewing. Anyone interested may register on the Library of the Chathams website free of charge. No computer skills are necessary.

Reference head Jay Chatterjee said the library offers numerous databases and practical career guides through their website, including occupation practical tests and workplace improvement skills.

"Like every librarian, I feel very concerned about getting people adequate information [for their careers] because people are hurting," Chatterjee said. "These are the times that I think we have a greater responsibility to help people."

Chatterjee said she gets calls every day from residents in Chatham and surrounding municipalities asking for help and advice as they hunt for jobs. One woman from Livingston, she said, calls at least once a week to ask what classifieds appear in the newspapers. The Livingston Library, the woman told Chatterjee, has discontinued its subscription to certain newspapers due to budget constraints.

Chatterjee said anyone who needs guidance in finding a job should come use the resources in the Chatham library. Some of the third-party databases charge fees for their services, but Chatterjee said financial assistance is available.

The Tutor.com seminars will be held on Sept. 29, Oct. 27 and Dec. 1, all at 3 p.m.
