Blood, Baseball and Cars

And other essential information for July 8, 2011.

The National Weather Service predicts a 60 percent chance of thunderstorms on Friday, so bring along your umbrella when you leave the house this morning. And for your daily dish of what's happening in the Chathams, here are the Five Things You Need to Know Today:

  1. You need to know about recycling: Township residents have curbside recycling pick-up Friday morning.
  2. You need to know about summer hours: The Chatham Borough and Township Municipal Buildings close at 1 p.m. Friday.
  3. You need to know about blood: The Library of the Chathams is hosting a blood drive from 10 a.m. to noon Friday.
  4. You need to know about baseball: The 12 and under Chatham Invitational Baseball Tournament begins on Nash Field at 6:30 p.m.
  5. You need to know Route 66: It is located absolutely nowhere near Chatham. However, since July 8 is Collector Car Appreciation Day, we just thought we’d mention the classic car appreciation festival. And if that’s not enough of a local connection for you, your humble Chatham Patch editor hails from a city along the historic highway which winds from Chicago to L.A.

For other information worth knowing, see the Chatham Patch events calendar and announcements section—and if you've got something the community should know, don't forget to make a post of your own in one or both of those site sections.
