April Showers Predicted Monday

And other essential information to get you through your Monday.

With a 30 percent chance of rain predicted Monday, Chathamites may want to bring their umbrellas as they head outdoors to one of the several events outlined in the Five Things You Need to Know Today column for April 4:

  1. You need to know about schools: Chatham schools are closed this week for Spring Break, so for those still in town, your kids can relax and go back to sleep.
  2. You need to know about Alice in Wonderland: The are holding auditions tonight for “Alice In Wonderland” at the Chatham Playhouse.
  3. You need to know about sports: The softball team takes on Hanover Park High School Monday at 4 p.m. in an away game, baseball faces Hanover Park at home at 4 p.m., and the track teams travel to Madison for a meet at 4 p.m. Girls lacrosse faces Ridgewood High at 4:30 p.m.
  4. You need to know about meditation: The meditation group at St. Patrick’s Church meets in the chapel at 7 p.m.
  5. You need to know about land mines: The United Nations declared April 4 of each year as International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance for Mine Action Day. In 2009, according to the Landmine and Cluster Munition Monitor, landmines and explosives caused 3,956 recorded casualties, a number considered by the LCMM to be lower than the actual number.
