A Healthy Day

Blood pressure screenings, Wellness Campaigns and World Health, along with other essential information for Thursday, April 7.

Chathamites wishing for an end to the rain are in for a long weekend of disappointment, according to the National Weather Service, which predicts no sunshine until Tuesday. For other essential information for Thursday, April 7, check out the Five Things You Need to Know Today:

  1. You need to know your blood pressure: Residents can get their blood pressure checked at a screening event at the Library of the Chathams from 10 a.m. to noon.
  2. You need to know about art: The Chatham Art League meets Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Chatham Township Municipal Building.
  3. You need to know about softball: The Chatham High girls varsity softball team takes on Parsippany Hills in a home game at 4 p.m. at Chatham Middle School.
  4. You need to know how to be well: The Mayor’s Wellness Campaign meets tonight at 8 p.m. at the Chatham Township Municipal Building.
  5. You need to know about all the weird holidays we celebrate today: And boy, are there plenty! On the fun side, April 7 is celebrated as:
  • International Beaver Day,
  • International Snailpapers (i.e. traditional newspapers) Day,
  • National Beer Day and
  • No Housework Day, though we suggest that Chatham kids don’t press this point too hard as a way to get out of doing chores.

On the more serious side, April 7 is celebrated as ASPCA Day (though we can’t figure out why, since the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was founded in the U.S. on April 10) and World Health Organization Day. The World Health Organization is a chapter of the United Nations that helps to shape medical standards of treatment throughout the world.
