Late Chatham White 11U Rally falls Short

With playoffs looming Monday, the Chatham White 11U summer travel baseball team played a non-league game Saturday against Ridge West at the Ridge Baseball Complex. It gave a few new players a chance to pitch but no player had quite a day like big Sam Dempsey. A bad hop grounder in the second inning hit the second baseman just below the right eye giving him a qucik shiner. But the tough guy refused to leave the game and he was glad he didn't. He came to the mound and shut down the Ridge West team that had taken a big early lead and later hit a double deep to centerfield. Chatham White put up 9 runs in the last two innings but fell 17-16 with the tying run on second.  Kyle Holmes continued his torrid streak at the plate with another double and a single after having 3 hits Friday night. The new clean up hitter has brought his batting average over .400 to go along with his strong pitching season. Thomas Wolf led the ofensive barrage going 3 for 4 with two doubles to the fence in left center. Willie Kelly pitched and threw out a runner from right field. Hits by Wolf, Holmes, Gabe Park and Sam Alterman helped Chatham early, while Michael Vintzel, Matt Patterson, Liam Holland, and Sam Bozzo fueled the late innings comeback. Seeded third in their bracket, Chatham White returns to action Monday night at 5:30 PM with a game against Scotch Plains Fanwood Blue at Shunpike Field.
