Keep Summer Going with Italian Ice

A staple at the Farmer's Market, Italian Ice might make you think it's still summer.

The weather may be getting colder but that does not stop Julianne and Joe LoPiccolo, co-owners of J&J Italian Ice, from selling Italian Ice at the Chatham Borough Farmers Market.

Two years ago, the LoPiccolo family hooked up with Maglione’s Italian Ice distributor. What inspired this husband and wife duo to open their own Italian Ice cart? “My father has the Chatham bakery and he suggested we try selling Italian Ice and see how it turns out,” Julianne LoPiccolo said.

J&J Italian Ice sells traditional Italian Ice flavors like lemon, cherry, blue raspberry, green apple, coconut and sugar-free lemon. These flavors usually stay the same, but “we change up [the flavors] once and a while,” Julianne said.

According to Julianne, green apple and blue raspberry are two of J&J Italian Ice’s bestselling items because the kids love them.

In addition to going to the Farmers Market each Saturday, the couple goes to private birthday parties, barbeques and special events year round. “It is really fun to do a birthday party,” Julianne said. “The kids or even the adults will come up and ask what we have.”
