Huge Crowds for Ladies Shopping Night

Organizers said the latest event was most successful yet.

Downtown Chatham was filled to the brim Thursday as women converged for the latest Ladies Shopping Night, one of the borough's efforts to attract consumers

Crowds filled the shops and restaurants of downtown, with some local favorites like Charley's Aunt completely occupied.

"I think it was very successful," said Borough Mayor Nelson Vaughan. "The opening of Quartet brought a lot of crowds, and it looked like everyone had a good time."

The four owners of Quartet, Vicky Anello, Amy McGrath, Kim McManus and Jennifer Terry, reached out to their friends and acquaintances to help make Ladies Shopping Night – and their store's grand opening – a success. They toasted champagne and served hors d'œuvres to the mothers and daughters who came to enjoy what downtown Chatham has to offer. With delicious spreads and a free Quartet bag with each purchase, this new addition to the business district was the buzz of Ladies Shopping Night.

Vicki Fife, a councilwoman in Chatham Borough, said she had a "wonderful" time at her first Ladies Shopping Night. "For me it was a chance to catch up with people I haven't seen in a really long time," she said. "I'd love to see it [happen] again with more merchants involved."

Vaughan said that events like Ladies Shopping Night were a good way for residents and consumers from outside Chatham to see all that downtown has to offer. "If you walk into a store in Chatham, odds are you're going to meet the owner, not a staff person working on commission," he said. "What a great thing for our town."

DJ Crater, The European Market and Home Sweet Home also opened their doors to shoppers, and many had discounts or prizes to give away to shoppers.
