Gabriella's Hosts Main Street Blood Drive

Gabriella's Ice Cream hosted the New York Blood Center staff and donation trailer for their biannual blood drive Monday afternoon and evening.

The prominent red trailer holds several berths for donors to give blood, plus an examination vestibule for potential donors to go through the screening process in privacy.

For Gabriella's owner and manager Mike Lloyd, the biannual drive is a very personal event. "I can't give blood because of my medical situation, so my doctor suggested I organize a blood donor event about six years ago, and here we are," he told Tony Britt of the Chatham Downtown Alliance.

The trailer was parked on Main Street accepting blood donors until 8 p.m. Monday.

"This is a way  to meaningfully give back to the community by helping to facilitate this twice yearly event," Lloyd said.
