Chatham Author Pens Book on Teen's Struggle to Survive Bird Flu

Yvonne Ventresca's 'Pandemic' to be released in May.

A Chatham author is getting ready to release her latest book next month.

Yvonne Ventresca's new book, "Pandemic," a "contemporary, realistic young adult novel about an emotionally traumatized teenager struggling to survive a devastating bird flu pandemic," will be released in May.

"With friends and neighbors dying around her, Lil does everything she can to survive," according to a press release. "She is barely coping when the cause of her original trauma shows up at her door. Lil must find a way to survive not only the deadly outbreak and its real-life consequences, but also her own personal demons."

The School Library Journal called the book "an engrossing apocalyptic story."

Ventresca's previous work includes two non-fiction books for kids, "Avril Lavigne" (a biography of the singer) and "Publishing" (a book about careers in the field).

Her latest release, a 352-page hardcover book, "will keep most readers enthralled," according to Kirkus Reviews.

“In her first novel, Ventresca pulls together three unrelated themes to create a medical thriller/romance. With the scarily rapid spread of the disease and the resulting crumbling of society offering ample peril and suspense....this realistic page-turner will keep most readers enthralled."
