Win Tickets to See Richard Shindell

Shindell performs in a Sanctuary Concert on Saturday.

The Sanctuary Concert Series brings top performers to Chatham, and Chatham Patch has teamed with the series to offer free tickets to the first readers who can answer a trivia question.

On Saturday, April 9, New Jersey native Richard Shindell performs at the Sanctuary Concert Series. Shindell studied at both a Zen monastery and a theological seminary before he was signed with the New Jersey record company Shanachie Records. He has released nine albums as an individual artist and as part of a performing group, and made up one-third of the trio Cry Cry Cry along with Lucy Kaplansky and Dar Williams. In 1997, Joan Baez recorded three of his songs and invited Shindell to tour with her.

The trio Mad Agnes, in one of their last public performances, will also appear Saturday as a part of the concert. They recently announced that the group will soon disband.

Master singer/songwriter Richard Shindell was born in Lakehurst, NJ. But he and John Gorka (another icon of the new singer/songwriter movement, who was born in Colonia, NJ) first made music together in a different state. Where did they meet, and what was their band called?

The first two readers to email Chatham Patch Editor Laura Silvius at laura.silvius@patch.com with the correct answers will win a pair of free tickets.
