Win 2 Tickets to John Waite

The Sanctuary Concerts presents John Waite, with his band, Saturday night at the Presbyterian Church of Chatham Township in support of his latest album "Rough and Tumble."

Waite began his career as the lead singer and bassist for The Babys in 1980. After he launched his solo career in 1982, his first single "Change" became one of MTV's most popular music videos during the channel's first year. 

Waite's second album, "No Brakes," brought international success with the hit single "(I Ain't) Missing You", which reached the No. 1 spot on the US Billboards. The song, rerecorded with Grammy Award winner Alison Krauss, charted again in 2008.

Several other songs by Waite went on to achieve success throughout the 1980s, especially when featured on film soundtracks. His song "If Anybody Had a Heart" was released on the About Last Night... soundtrack, and "Deal for Life" was featured on the Days of Thunder soundtrack.

When Waite formed the band Bad English in 1988 he had a second No. 1 hit with "When I See You Smile." Since 1995 he has produced a further five solo albums, and toured with Ringo Starr's All Starr Band in 2003 and with Journey in 2005. 

Opening for Waite is Suzie Vinnick, a Canadian "blues belter," in the words of Sanctuary Concerts Head Scott Sheldon. Saskatoon Downtown, a Canadian newspaper, compared her to "a young Bonnie Raitt ... [who] moves easily through rock, country, pop and folk stylings."

Waite and Vinnnick appear in concert Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church of Chatham Township. Tickets are available through the Sanctuary Concerts for $25 each. As always, the price of admission includes coffee and desserts during intermission.
