No Shame Performs at Borough Gazebo

The three-man band from Madison, performed as part of the Fishawack festivities.

“We’re really lucky to have the weather on our side today” Connor Forde guitarist and singer of the band No Shame joked. Yet despite the scattered drizzles and overcast a small sized crowd gathered around the gazebo Saturday, June 11, at 3:30 to watch No Shame perform.

No Shame is band from Madison, New Jersey. Its three members; guitarist/ singer Connor Forde, guitarist/singer Neil Forde, and drummer Alex Vezza are all in High School and are all very talented.

The band performed a variety of songs. They performed 5446 That's My Number/ Ball and Chain by Sublime. They sang Purple Haze by Jimmy Hendrix.  They also sang the catchy Santaria also by Sublime. Finally they closed with an original song called Good Times.

The band, simply put, was excellent. They demonstrated a wide range of musical abilities.  Some of their songs such as Santaria were softer, but others such as 5446 That’s my Number/ Ball and Chain were edgier. To keep their music fresh, the two guitarists rotated between playing lead and bass guitar, and they took turns singing.

While many people might be able to keep a crowd entertained with mainstream music, No Shame did so with music that was not as well known. Even though the crowd was not as big as the band probably deserved, No Shame gave 100 percent of its energy to performing.  It was evident to the audience, that they cared about the music and believed it.

When asked why they were called No Shame, Neil Ford explained, “[We were] really inspired by this band called Pepper.” Pepper came out with a song called No Shame, and hence No Shame, was created.

When the band was being created the band “all reflected on the meaning of No Shame,” Neil Forde said. “We don’t just play what you hear on the radio,” he added.  Indeed between their musical tastes, their ability to create an excellent original song and the quiet confidence that they exuberate; No Shame certainly isn’t afraid to be themselves.

It is a shame that more Chathamites couldn’t see No Shame perform at the Gazebo. Anyone who missed them can look at their Facebook page, where they have some songs available for listening.

Hopefully No Shame will perform again in Chatham. And maybe next time, the weather will actually be on their side.
