CHATHAM, NEW JERSEY, January 26  -- The Washington Avenue School Parent Teacher Organization (WAS PTO) announced today that it will welcome the Princeton Tigertones for a special performance and fundraiser on Friday, February 24th, at 7:30 p.m. at the Chatham Middle School.  Students from first through third grade will open the evening with a special preview performance of their spring show, Willy Wonka.

The Princeton Tigertones are an all-male a cappella group of students from Princeton University.  Established in 1946, they have performed across the globe for many audiences, including the White House, Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, foreign presidents and dignitaries, U.S. celebrities, from the tops of camels in Egypt, and cross-Atlantic on the QE2.  The Tigertones have a constantly expanding repertoire, ranging from traditional ballads and jazz to barbershop, Broadway, classic rock, and American pop.  The Tigertones and their songs have universal appeal and continue to entertain audiences of all ages and musical tastes.

“We are delighted that we can offer this community event,” said Samantha Ekert, President of the WAS PTO.  “The Tigertones have travelled the world performing and we are so excited that their next stop is Chatham. We’re also thrilled that our own students from Washington Avenue School will lead us off and share their young talents as well.”

The event will be a fundraiser for the WAS PTO and the more than 450 K-3 students to help provide programs and activities, including assemblies, field trips, equipment, and special projects.

“We’ve sold wrapping paper, baked goods, and greeting cards,” said Colleen Markley, who is chairing the event along with Loren Hamilton, both volunteers for the PTO and mothers of students at WAS.  “At some point we all think about wanting less stuff to buy and looking for more interesting experiences to share with our children and the rest of the community, and to be able to provide an affordable and inclusive event has been very exciting.”

Tickets are available for purchase for all members of the community beginning January 30th.  Adults are $15.  Students and Seniors are $10.  Family packages (2 adult tickets and tickets for all children residing in their household) available for $50.  To purchase tickets or for more information please email tigertonestickets@gmail.com.
