Lyrica Chamber Music presents Stravinsky's "A Soldier's Tale"

On Sunday, September 23rd at 3pm, a wayward soldier with a knack for the violin makes a tragic pact with the devil in an attempt to win wealth, freedom and love.  Marching across space and time, his story is told by dramatic narration and colored by the brilliant music of Igor Stravinsky, in Lyrica Chamber Music’s performance of classic Russian folk tale, l’Histoire du Soldat (Soldier’s Tale).

Conductor Adam Dureau Waite leads seven top notch musicians, all soloists of the Lyrica Chamber Orchestra, in the inaugural concert of Lyrica’s 26th consecutive season, at the Presbyterian Church of Chatham Township, 240 Southern Blvd.

Continuing Lyrica’s tradition of partnering with local schools, the performance will also include three rising stars from the theater programs of New Providence, Summit and Chatham High Schools. James Whiting, Keenan Buckley and Devynn Pedell will lend their talents to the voices of the Narrator, the Soldier and the Devil.  Special guest and Montclair native Ricardo Riethmuller will direct, artistic director for NYC’s East 3rd Productions.

Part avant-garde musical adventure, part pageant, the concert is perfect for families and music lovers of all ages. The show will begin with an open panel discussion exploring the work and its fascinating context, led by the conductor (Waite), the director (Riethmuller) and Lyrica Co-Artistic Director, David Kaplan.
