Jules Shear with Pal Shazar at The Loft at Union County Performing Arts Center

Jules Shear is a singer/songwriter from Pittsburgh, PA.  He has recorded almost 20 albums and conceived the idea for and hosted the first 13 episodes of the MTV series Unplugged.

Shear's uncanny ability to avoid repeating himself is all the more remarkable in light of the longevity of his recording career. His varied catalogue and captivating live performances have won him a devoted fan base that includes numerous fellow artists, many of whom have recorded his compositions. The group includes Cyndi Lauper (who scored a Top Five hit with his "All Through the Night"), The Bangles (who had a hit with his "If She Knew What She Wants"), The Band, Roger McGuinn, 10,000 Maniacs, Curtis Stigers and Jeremy Toback.

"As I get older, I care more about the timeless aspect of making records, and less about making my records sound 'current' or 'competitive'. I'm still always looking for that same thrill I got when I was a kid, when I'd hear something great on the radio and be completely blown away by it. I try to keep in touch with that feeling and let the rest of it fall by the wayside. “

Pal Shazar was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. Her musical career began at a time when creative souls roamed wildly on the east coast. She began writing songs in the late 70’s, inspired by artists like Patti Smith, Television, and Iggy Pop, all of whom she illustrated for the local rock fanzine, Back Door Man, while working nights as a ticket girl at the famed Troubadour nightclub. In the early eighties, she was half of the duo Slow Children, formed with Andrew Chinich. They released two records, Slow Children and Mad About Town, for Ensign in the UK and RCA in the US.  After marrying musician Jules Shear, Shazar developed her own label, Shiffaroe Records, on which she released her debut solo album, Cowbeat of My Heart.  Since then, she has collaborated with musicians such as Sara Lee, Stephen Hague, and Mike Scott of The Waterboys.  A true renaissance artist, this musician, painter, and designer continues to write prolifically and gain attention with each and every move.
