On September 10, 2011 the Friends of Great Swamp NWR will hold its 12th annual Fall Festival. The festival will feature activities such as puppet shows, story telling, river seining, exhibits, walks, and more. Refuge staff will be present to show examples of wildlife found at the Refuge. Partners from Raptor Trust, Great Swamp Watershed Assoc., Wallkill River National Wildlife Refuge and others will also participate in the day.

The Fall Festival will mark the grand opening of the new Detective Trail for children at the Helen C. Fenske Visitor Center.  This trail encourages children to learn about nature by using all of their senses.  There is a new Native Plant garden for Butterflies created by the Friends where you can learn how to attract different butterfly species.
