Chatham Community Band to Perform Free Spring Concert

The Chatham Community Band, under the direction of Brian Conti, will present its annual Spring Concert on Sunday, May 15, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at the Chatham High School Auditorium, 255 Lafayette Avenue in Chatham, New Jersey.

In addition to a collection of crowd-pleasing classics and marches sure to please all ages, the concert will feature a special performance by local oboe soloist Lynne Cohen.

Ms. Cohen maintains an active teaching studio in Chatham and has performed with nearly every Tri-State area freelance orchestra, including the Brooklyn Philharmonic, the New York Pops, Queens Symphony, Bard Festival, Connecticut Grand Opera, American Ballet Theater and the Hartford Symphony.

On Broadway, Ms. Cohen served as the full time oboist on "Cyrano," "Miss Saigon," "The Wizard of Oz," "La Boheme," "Little Women," "Lestat" and "Ragtime."

Before coming to NJ in 1993, Ms. Cohen was the Principal Oboist of the Palm Beach Symphony and Opera and the Miami City Ballet, and taught at Florida International University and the New World School for the Arts in Miami. Ms. Cohen spent four years in Europe as a Principal Oboist of the Collegium Academicum de Geneve and L’Orchestre de Chambre de Geneve, taught at the Hindemith Institute in Blonay, Switzerland, and played second Oboe and English Horn with the Hofer Symphoniker in Germany.

The Chatham Community Band looks forward to having Ms. Cohen share her musical talents with the community. The afternoon will also include light refreshments and a drawing for door prizes. Admission to the concert is free.
