Chatham Junior Selected for National Chorus

Three further singers selected for North Jersey Junior Chorus.

junior MinJee Kim has been accepted to the 2012 All-National High School Mixed Chorus, and will perform at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. on Sunday, June 24.

The Chatham High Music and Theater Departments presented "The Drowsy Chaperone" between March 1 and 3. The Music and Theater Boosters offer their congratulations to Director Lynn Polan for the "outstanding production."

Acccording to Polan, the funds raised by the production will go toward Chatham High's productions in the 2012-13 school year.

Eighth-grader Sarah Lowe and Chatham High freshmen Anastasia Arvanites and Matthew Farrell will perform with the All-North Jersey Region I Junior Chorus, which is comprised of exceptional singers between the seventh and ninth grades from all over northern New Jersey. The three performed a program of choral standards Sunday at Parsippany High School.

Jeffrey Grogan, the educational outreach conductor of The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, will visit to give master classes to the fifth grade band, chorus and orchestra. Each group will have a 30-minute workshop focusing on skill sets determined by Laurie DeBiasse, Krystle Graser and Andrew Newcomer, the respective group directors.

Jim Buchanan, a professional string bass player, visited bass players on Feb. 29 to give an hour-long workshop. The Music and Theater Boosters provided an honorarium for his time and offer their thanks to Suzanne Bass for setting it up.

 

The 2012 North Jersey School Music Association will sponsor an Elementary Honors Band Festival on May 5 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Columbia High School, with the LAS Band participating. Students will arrive, receive music, rehearse, have lunch and perform their concert in the same day.

Two pianists from , third-grader Natasha Wan and second-grader Francesca Wan, received high honors in the Golden Key Music Festival. Natasha won a Super Bronze prize and will perform at Lincoln Center on May 20. Francesca won Gold and will perform at Carnegie Hall later this year.
