What Are Your Kids Doing This Summer?

Camp is just one activity, our Madison Moms want to know what else you've got planned once school lets out.

While most of us are still shaking off the effects of a cold, snowy winter, parents are busy formulating plans for summer, and answering that key question: What are the kids going to do?

Camps, both day and sleep-away, are a staple for many families and just one way to occupy the kids. Our Madison Moms Talk wants to know what else you've got going on. After a long school year jammed with homework, clubs, sports, and more, maybe it's time to let the kids relax at home with fun projects. Or maybe you're spending the summer poolside. Many families also enjoy day trips, there are countless places to visit within easy driving distance.

It's always a challenge to coordineate camps for my four children .Usually,I start with my oldest, who loves Girl Scout day camp. Then I try to find out what camp my son's friends are attending. Finally something age -appropriate for the little ones.Add in different start dates and sessions and my left eyeball starts twitching around this time every year!

While this weather (is everyone else as fed up as I am with this snow?) isn't really putting me in the summer mood, I 've made some great summer plans for our family. I think we're covering all the bases - three different camps, a road trip to the beach, family coming to visit and some general downtime without the rush of getting to piano lessons, swimming, skating etc etc etc. Now you'll have to forgive me, but I'm off to shovel the drive!!!

Oh the pool! We have joined for years but we never end up going. The swim lessons are in the early morning and the pool is freezing or later in the morning when it's impossible not to get sunburned. After camp were beat and we go down the shore on the weekends. But they do have two awesome slides and a great kiddie pool!

If anyone is interested in day camp, you should check out Meadowbrook Country Day Camp. My older daughter works there, and my younger one is a third-year camper there. Both of them declared this past summer The Best Ever. Being there feels like another world because it is so beautiful, but, most important, the spirit is generated by the entire staff and the kids can't help but catch on quickly. Check out their website for more information!
