Queen Elizabeth Comes to Chatham—Sort Of

Local Britons used masks of the royal family and a cardboard cut-out of the queen to celebrate diamond jubilee.

 

Just because British ex-patriots in the Chathams couldn't go home for the queen's diamond jubilee doesn't mean they didn't celebrate in style.

Citizens of the United Kingdom and Americans who lived abroad in England gathered at Monday for a private party to commemorate 60 years of Queen Elizabeth's reign.

To properly celebrate the event, residents had family and friends ship decorations from England, including bowling hats with the Union Jack, a solar-powered wobble toy of the queen who waves when powered and a large cardboard cut-out of the queen.

Decorations were imported from the UK, sent by friends and family, to turn the restaurant into a slice of England, and more than one person said the cloudy, rainy weather was reminiscent of England, too.
