JCP&L Brings in Additional Crews to Handle Potential Storm Outages

Utility provider has added dispatchers and crew members in case of widespread outages resulting from latest storm.

As Morris County braces for another winter storm to wallop the area – less than 48 hours after snow blanketed the county – energy provider Jersey Central Power & Light has stated it is ready and prepared to respond.

Utility personnel are prepared to respond to any outages caused by sever winter weather forecasted for Tuesday night, the company said in a press release.

“JCP&L has activated storm response plans, including staffing additional dispatchers and analysts at regional dispatch offices, and making arrangements to bring in additional line, substation and forestry personnel, as required, based on the severity of the weather,” the statement said. 

The company will also be working with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Locals 102 and 400 if necessary.

“The ultimate goal of our pre-planning efforts is to speed the restoration process and utilize our new storm response tools to minimize any inconvenience our customers experience due to the weather,” said JCP&L president Jim Fakult.

Customers who are without power are encouraged to call 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877) to report their outage or click the “Report Outage” link on www.jcp-l.com In the event of severe weather, customers should immediately report downed wires to their utility or their local police or fire department.

JCP&L had several crews and equipment "housed" at the Comfort Inn on Route 57 in Mansfield in advance of the storm. It seems like they are trying to be ahead of the game this time around. Let's hope they don't have too much to do. Don't know how big an area they cover.
