The Presbyterian Church of Chatham Township Hosts 5th Annual Pumpkin Patch

It’s become a much-anticipated sight in Chatham – the front lawn of the Presbyterian Church of Chatham Township on Southern Boulevard littered with thousands of pumpkins.

And starting October 6, the Pumpkin Patch will be back!

To mark the opening of the Pumpkin Patch, there will be special festivities on Saturday, Oct. 8 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Included is live music from the church’s own musical group Folk Lore, pumpkin painting for kids as well as the sale of hot dogs, birch beer and other treats.

Now in its fifth year, the Pumpkin Patch is a fundraising program, through an agreement with the Navajo Agricultural Products Industry (NAPI), which sells pumpkins that are grown and transported from the Navajo Reservation in Farmington, NM. This year, it is reported that New Mexico has had a bumper crop of pumpkins!

Proceeds from pumpkin sales are shared with the tribe, based on a sliding scale. The remainder of the revenue will then be donated to the Community Soup Kitchen and Outreach Center, Inc. in Morristown, and the Community FoodBank of NJ.

It’s no small task organizing an endeavor of this kind.  Over 3,000 pumpkins in various shapes, sizes and colors will be arriving on a truck on October 5. As in past years, the Chatham High School football team will help unload the piles of pumpkins. Then, over 100 adult and youth volunteers from the church will help organize and run the sale throughout the month of October.

The Pumpkin Patch hours are noon to 6 p.m. weekdays; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekends through October 31. Prices range from 50 cents to almost $20, based on size.

The Presbyterian Church of Chatham Township is located at 240 Southern Blvd.  For more information, call 973-635-2340 or go to www.pcct-nj.org.
