Chatham Natives Graduate from Marist

Dean's List recipients, dance and theater recognitions also announced.

Four Chatham residents were among those who received their degrees at Marist College's commencement ceremonies the weekend of May 18 in Poughkeepsie, NY.

Those local residents are:

  • Kathleen Daugherty, who received a Bachelor of Professional Studies degree in Fashion Merchandising
  • Mary Ferenchiak, who received a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work
  • Brendan Ross, who received a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology
  • Kaitlin Travers, who received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science with a concentration in Public Affairs.

Marist also announced the students who were named to the Dean's List for the 2012 spring semester. Chatham residents included on the Dean's List are:

  • Emily Bernard, Chatham, NJ, is a member of the Class of 2014 and is majoring in Fashion Merchandising.
  • Elizabeth Galvin, Chatham, NJ, is a member of the Class of 2014 and is majoring in Mathematics - Adolescence Education.
  • Ferenchiak, and
  • Travers.

Bernard, Ferenchiak, Galvin and Travers were also named to the Dean's List for the 2011 fall semester, along with:

  • Connor Krill, a member of the Class of 2014 majoring in Communications/Advertising.
  • Elizabeth Kaufman, a member of the Class of 2013 majoring in Fashion Design.
  • Alessandra Gajano, a member of the Class of 2015

Two other Chatham residents excelled in Marist's art scene during the 2011-12 school year.

Robert Peterpaul performed the role of Walter Rat in the play "Thumbelina," which played at Marist College for eight performances in late March. Every year, the Marist College Council on Theatre Arts (MCCTA) produces show for children and invites local elementary schools.

Abigail Taylor performed in the Marist College Dance Ensemble's spring semester showcase, "Dance Your Story." Taylor, who recently finished her freshman year at Marist, is a member of the Marist College Dance Ensemble (MCDE). With more than 250 members, the student-run organization is one of the College's largest and most active groups. The performance consisted of 27 pieces, choreographed completely by students, in a variety of dance genres. This showcase celebrated the 15th anniversary of MCDE.

Marist is an independent liberal arts college with 4,200 full-time undergraduate students. Founded in 1929, the college offers 43 major fields of undergraduate study and 12 graduate degree programs.
