Boy Scouts Prepare for May 5k

Troop 121 needs participants for their annual township run.

Registration is open for the annual Boy Scout Troop 5k run, which will be held on May 7.

The run is a fundraising event for Troop 121, and Jean-Christophe Perrin, one of the scouts in the troop, said they are still looking for runners. "Our current sign-up sheet is woefully bare," Perrin said. "Right now we have 10 registered, but we're expecting a lot more."

This is the second year that the troop has organized the run at Loantaka Brook Reservation. Perrin said that in 2010 about 75 people ran, and the troop made $1,400. "Were hoping to at least douhle that this year," Perrin said.

The funds will go to help purchase camping supplies and sponsor camping trips for the Boy Scouts. Usually the scouts camp in and around northern New Jersey and Pennsylvania, but they have a backpacking trip planned for New Mexico next year.

People of all age categories can register for the race for $20 by emailing troop5k@gmail.com with the names of the runners. Dog walkers can also join. Registration on the day of the event will be $25.
