Spring Awakening at CDC Theatre

Spring Awakening will opened on Valentine’s Day at CDC Theatre in Cranford. Winner of 8 Tony awards, with book and lyrics by Steven Sater and music by Duncan Sheik,   the rock musical adaptation of Frank Wedekind’s 1891 expressionist play deals with the trials, tribulations and exhilaration of the teen years through searing drama and soring ,lyrical music.

“Spring Awakening” follows the lives of Wendla, Melchior, Moritz and their friends as they struggle through the journey from youth to adulthood and explores the confusion and desperation that explode when the onrushing tide of hormones meets the ignorance of children.

“Even though it is based on a play written in 1891, the show deals with some strong coming of age situations that transcend any one era” explained Director Jeffrey Fiorello. “Issues such as premarital sex, abortion, child abuse all resonate as strongly today as they must have done a hundred years ago. “
