New Jersey Youth Concert May 18 3PM

The New Jersey Youth Chorus will be performing its spring concert on May 18, 2014 starting at 3:00pm, at the Summit High School, 125 Kent Place Boulevard in Summit NJ.  Tickets are $10.00 and may be purchased at the door, or in advance by calling 973-998-5670.  This concert will feature the Advanced Chorus, Young Men’s Ensemble, the Intermediate Chorus and the Apprentice Chorus, comprising four of the five current ensembles.  Katherine Carr, Katelyn Collins, Emily Como, Grace Costanzo, Rasika Dronamraju, Katherine Evans, Elizabeth Hawk, Emily Lamb Claire McGovern, Madison Roos, Elizabeth Stuart, and Mary Kate Willmot from Chatham will be performing.

The spring concert will cap off a banner 22nd season in which members of the New Jersey Youth Chorus performed at the Super Bowl with Queen Latifah, with the Chieftains at the Town Hall in New York City, at Carnegie Hall, and for the Harlem Globetrotters at the Prudential Center.  On April 28th the boys of NJYC hosted a “Guys and Guests Evening”, a get to know us event for 4th-11th grade boys.  Mr. LaPine, director of the Yong Men’s Ensemble, invited the guests to join the boys of NJYC at the spring concert in a song.  NJYC extends a warm welcome to them and hopes many will audition to join the newly formed Boys’ Ensemble (for boys in grades 5 through 8.)  “The ensemble will better meet the needs of boys who enjoy singing” - said Mr. LaPine.  “It will create an opportunity for them to explore their voice and transition through their voice change.  Research shows that boys who begin singing at a young age often stop when their voice begins to change because they don't receive the support they need to transition to their new voice.  We are providing that support and encouragement through every step of the way” he continued.
