Fall Lectures and Screenings at the Madison Area YMCA

The Madison Area YMCA is pleased to offer community programs, lectures and health screenings this fall. Health screenings and lectures include:

Women’s Health: Managing Fibromyalgia Syndrome Find out on Wednesday, October 9, at 12:15 p.m. in the Kroll Conference Room. Dr. Kara Allen-Artiglere, D.O. of Chatham Pain and Wellness and Dr. Yuchin Chang, P.T. of Professional Physical Therapy and Training will collaborate on discussing proper diagnosis and treatment of the varied aspects of Fibromyalgia Syndrome, especially related to women. Multiple treatment options, current thoughts on medication management, self-help tips for pain relief and postural correction will be discussed. Lunch will be provided. The lecture is free. Memory Screening: Thursday, November 7, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Participants are given simple verbal and written tests (MiniCog) that reveal deficits in memory and cognition. Results are given immediately along with recommendations and handouts on Alzheimer’s Disease. The screening is free.

Get Ski and Snowboard Ready: Saturday, November 16, at 10:00 a.m. Get ready for the ski and snowboard season. Make sure to prep your body as well as your equipment for the slopes. Avoid injuries and find out how to maximize your performance to get the most out of your runs. The free seminar is presented by Dr. Paul Kochoa, doctor of physical therapy and an orthopedic clinical specialist.

Bone Density Screening: Tuesday, December 10, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. A non-invasive ultrasound of the forearm gives men and women over 35 a t-score and/or z-score that will indicate risk for osteoporosis. Individual counseling and educational handouts will be provided. Participants must register by calling 1-800-247-9580 or by visiting atlantichealth.org. The cost is $10 per person. Cash or check: payable to Morristown Medical Center.
