Cornerstone Family Programs’ Madison Day Care Center Children Celebrate “Earth Day”

Children at the Madison Day Care Center celebrated Earth Day with a variety of activities on Tuesday, April 22.  This international observance began in 1970, in an era with little regard for the environment, and built upon the early public awareness stirred up by Rachel Carson in her book “Silent Spring.” The children at Madison Day Care Center were among those participating in what is now regarded as the world’s largest secular observance.

Earth Day aims to raise public awareness of the earth and threats to the environment. Madison Day Care children learned about the importance of clean air and water, and the ways in which air and water are essential to nature and to human life. They learned how even such simple things as more efficient light bulbs, and not wasting water, can make a real difference in how people live.

Cornerstone Family Programs (and its subsidiary Morristown Neighborhood House) build better lives and stronger communities by helping individuals, families, and new immigrants who are confronting economic and other life challenges. Pre-school, after school, summer camp, recreation, tutoring, and parenting education programs give children the best start in life and help youth reach their full potential.  Counseling, substance abuse prevention, recreation, work force development, language, and skill-building programs build resiliency in families.  Adult day care centers, case management services, and counseling and education programs help older adults remain independent in their homes.  CFP, founded in 1813, and MNH, founded in 1898, joined forces in 2013 to better serve the community.
