CEF News

Chatham Education Foundation (CEF) is in the news again!

You might only associate CEF with great events, like the annual Taste of Chatham or the recent talk-of-the-town, sold out inauguration of Trivia Night, or the first event in our enlightening series of Educational Forums a few weeks ago...we could go on. But our multi-tasking knows no bounds - at the same time, CEF has been busy with its core mission of awarding funds to our public schools to enhance public education – and managed to award over $13,000 in grants to Chatham teachers and staff during October and November.

Many of the grants had a focus on increasing the use of technology to enhance Chatham classrooms, at all grade levels.  Grant awards will provide 3D scanning capabilities, Google Nexus tablets, wireless remotes and other technology to enhance computational fluency. If you think a tablet is something to be taken with water, we suggest you ask your kids about all the great technology in their schools, so you don’t get left behind - not to mention them rolling their eyes at you..again.

Additionally, grant funds supported the continuation of Second Step, a highly successful character education program.  Elementary School Counselor Kelly Medvin states, “We are appreciative of CEF’s ongoing support of Washington Avenue School’s efforts to develop and improve our student’s social and emotional learning through our character education program.” The topic of teaching emotional intelligence has received increasing attention in the media, most recently in the September Education Issue of the Sunday New York Times Magazine. Hmm, we wonder if they got the idea from our district?!

CEF would like to thank the exemplary teachers and administrators of the School District of the Chathams for continuing to DREAM BIG and continually striving to enhance public education! You make all our multi-tasking worthwhile. Just please don’t ask us to do your laundry.
