Cancer Support Community to Host Program for Head & Neck Cancer Patients - 8 Week Program Focuses on Those Who Have Completed Active Treatment

Bedminster, NJ, March 10, 2014 –Cancer Support Community Central New Jersey is hosting an eight week Cancer Transitions series for anyone who has completed active treatment for any head and neck cancer, such as cancer of the tongue, larynx or salivary glands.  The program will take place on Monday evenings, April 21 through June 16 at Memorial Sloan Kettering Basking Ridge. This program is free of charge, but does require registration by calling CSCCNJ.

The goal of the program is to empower head and neck cancer survivors to take an active role in their recovery and bridge the gap between treatment and life following cancer.  Patients are invited to bring one family member as a guest.

Chuck House, who participated in the Cancer Transitions session previously with his spouse, explained the benefits he experienced.  "At first we were hesitant about going to just another support group.   The Transitions sessions are not really that at all. It is about learning, sharing, and growing into your own personal ‘new normal’,” said House.  “By the second meeting, we both realized how much it helped to be able to speak in an open forum with people who understood immediately what you were talking about.   It felt good to be able to help others who were not as far along in their recovery and to be encouraged by those that were farther down the road to the ‘new normal’ then we were.  We also made some friends along the way."
