Educational program for K-8 students in the Chathams organized by Chatham Township police.

The Chatham Township Police Department is holding an event Saturday in the Chatham High School parking lot to educate children of the Chathams in grades K-8 on proper bicycle and pedestrian safety.

Those planning to attend should email Officer Herchick in advance at sherchick@ctpd.net with the number of children who will attend and what grades they are in.

Bicycle safety topics will include safe riding posture, where to ride, types of roadway riding conditions, proper helmet and size, proper safety equipment and roadway signs and hazards, an announcement for the event says.

Pedestrian safety topics will include proper crosswalk procedures, hazards and what to do if a stranger approaches you.
