The National Weather Service has now issued a winter storm warning for the area with 4 to 8 inches of snow expected by Thursday morning. Chatham schools will have a two-hour delayed opening Wednesday, and all sports games have been canceled. The storm will cause slick traveling conditions and produce winds between 10 and 15 miles per hour with gusts up to 20 miles per hour, causing visibility to be reduced to one-quarter to one-half mile a times, the NWS said. UPDATE – 7:01 a.m.: All Chatham schools and school offices will be closed on Wednesday due to the weather, officials announced Wednesday morning. NJ Transit announced that bus service has been restored as of 11 a.m. Thursday morning after about a foot of snow piled up overnight. The transit agency said that some bus routes into Newark are still suspended and local routes in Mercer County will be restored by 11:30 a.m. Route numbers 5, 34, 40, 41, 76, 94 and 108 remain suspended. The Borough municipal offices and Chatham schools will open on a two-hour delay Thursday due to the snow storm. The announcement of the delayed openings came Wednesday evening. Morning kindergarten sessions have been canceled for Thursday.
