Dear Neighbors, I am writing today for a few reasons. First, I’d like to offer congratulations to Phil Franz on winning re-election to the school board. I wish him the best of luck while he continues to serve. Secondly, this letter is to thank all of you who listened to -and supported- my ideas and thoughts on how to make the school board better. But most importantly, I'd like to thank those of you who shared your concerns with me: From the oft-repeated concerns about rising taxes, to concerns on topics such as world languages, gifted and talented programs, ranking standings, curriculum, …
To The Editor: On behalf of the Chatham Education Foundation (CEF) Board of Trustees I want express our sincere gratitude for the incredible support for this year’s 12th annual Taste of Chatham. The Taste of Chatham is our single largest fundraising event of the year. Proceeds from the event will go towards providing grants to support innovative and creative educational programs and special projects for the School District of the Chathams’ approximately 4,100 K-12 students enrolled in the District’s six public schools. Since its inception in 1997, the CEF has distributed more than $600,000…
To the Editor, As a Chatham Borough resident I am appalled at the condition we allow our nations’ flag to be displayed atop the United States Post Office on Main Street. The flag certainly weathered and frayed from recent storms has been reduced to torn remnants. On three separate occasions I have made a request of postal personnel to change the American flag only to be told that they lack the necessary means to ascend to the roof. Proper etiquette of displaying the American flag dictates that once a flag has been rendered unserviceable it should be removed and destroyed in a dignified manner…
Our warmest holiday wishes to all our customers and fellow merchants this Christmas time. So many of you helped us recover from a serious fire earlier this year at our coffee shop. Tony Britt and the Bliss store were our "special angels." We will always remember Chatham's kind support and friendship during that time. Thank you, dear friends. God bless your new year with good help and happiness. Jimmy and Louia PoulimenosOwners, Angie's Luncheonette
Dear Editor: On behalf of The Chatham Turkey Trot I am pleased to report that the 4th Annual Chatham Turkey Trot, which was held this past Thanksgiving Day in the Highlands section of Chatham Township, was our most successful race ever. The event attracted 435 runners and raised $14,300, which will benefit the Chatham Township Volunteer Fire Department and the Diabetes Research Institute. It was only fitting that Chatham Township Mayor Hagner declared it “Chatham Turkey Trot Day” and for Congressman Frelinghuysen to personally send his regards for a successful race. The race continues to …
Dear Editor, I am writing on behalf of the teachers, parents, and students of Chatham Day School to express our appreciation for the leadership of Chatham Township's Mayor, Nicole Hagner. Her grace under pressure and outstanding communication skills were readily apparent and very helpful during the aftermath of the storm disaster. As Head of Chatham Day School, where we serve students from over 36 surrounding towns, the continuous flow of information from Mayor Hagner enabled me to keep our community informed about the power restoration status of the school. Whether the news was good or bad, …
A note from the Editor: The following letter was submitted to Chatham Patch for publication by Linda Dziedzic, whose husband, Charles Dziedzic, was the deputy director of the Chatham Borough Department of Public Works until his death in a car accident in April. It is with great humility, mindful of the loss to both Charlie's family and the borough, that I publish this letter at her request. Dear Chatham Borough: I struggle with finding the proper words to express the gratitude myself and our family has for the beautiful Memorial that you created for Charlie. For everyone that was involved …
Thank you Chatham for your strong support. We are once again honored to be your elected representatives on The Chatham Borough Council. We will continue to do our very best to meet and exceed your expectations while working to keep Chatham Borough a wonderful place to live.We wish to thank our opponent, Michael Yodice, for his community spirit and willingness to get involved in the affairs of the Borough. We applaud his sense of selflessness and hope that he will continue to offer his time, energy and talent to the service of Chatham Borough and our residents. This community runs on the …
To the Editor, As election day looms, there is more here than just electing a new president. We also have our local races. We here in Chatham Township need Kevin Sullivan to be elected to the Township Committee. He has served our town well over the years, has a great background, has served our country, is a family man, etc. He has what it takes to serve us with solid common sense, thoughtfulness, fiscal responsibility and knowledge of our town needs. Kevin Sullivan has been endorsed by many in town, existing, and former members of the Committee, as well as current and former mayors. Member …
As you have been moving around our beautiful little borough either taking a stroll, on a bicycle or in your car, you probably have noticed quite a few lawn signs that read “Working for a better Chatham, Re-elect Len Resto and John Holman”; you might have asked yourself, who are these guys, and how are they working for a better Chatham? Both of these candidates have their own individual strong suits, and together they add strength of the Council. John Holman has been a champion of finding ways to contain costs while maintaining services that provide a high quality of life. Working together …
To the Editor: This Thursday, Sept. 27, the Chatham Township Committee will discuss a “possible ordinance or resolution” for a “temporary T-Mobile cell tower lease at Esternay Field.” Essentially, the Township Committee is considering whether to allow T-Mobile to remove the upper playground at Esternay Field and, in its place, install a “temporary” T-Mobile cell tower. The 150-ft. cell tower and it’s equipment trailer will look much like the “temporary” cell tower that currently sits next to the Chatham Township Municipal Bldg. In exchange, the Township will receive a fee of approximately…
To whom it may concern: It is a distinct privilege and pleasure to endorse the candidacy of Mr. Kevin Sullivan for the Chatham Township Committee. Although I have not lived in the Chatham Township community, I have known Kevin for more than 25 years, which included his honorable and faithful service as a U.S. Marine Officer, and later as a personal friend and advisor. Over the years our friendship has endured in earnest, and every step of the way Kevin consistently demonstrated immeasurable commitment, dependability and impeccable personal integrity as evidenced in his success and enviable …

Dear Editor, I was taught when I was a little girl that true character is demonstrated when he/she thinks that no one is looking. I'm new to the area but a few weeks ago spent the afternoon at the park on Shunpike with my sister and her kids. While on line at the ice cream truck with my nephew I noticed someone who was struggling to find enough change to buy his kids ice cream. Both kids wanted different items and he was trying hard to talk them into sharing one. A woman in line behind him then offered to buy ice cream for both of his kids and then told a story about the same thing …
Dear Editor, As a fellow member of the NJ Republican Committee, I wanted to recommend Laura Ali Nonnemacher to the Chatham Township voters for Township Committee. She has been a resident for 19 years, her three boys attend Chatham public schools and her parents also reside in town. She has served and volunteered for numerous posts including President of PTO. As a collegue I know she will bring an interesting dynamic. She has unlimited energy and passion in whatever she does and is solutions oriented. She …
Dear Editor: With the Tuesday, June 5 Republican Primary fast approaching, I urge all Republican voters to cast their vote for Kevin Sullivan for Chatham Township Committee. I strongly value Kevin’s background, experience, and capabilities. Here in Chatham Township, we are fortunate to have such a strong candidate to put our support behind in the upcoming election. Many of you know Kevin either as a member of the Planning Board, as an athletic coach, or as an active parishioner at St. Patrick's. What you may not know about him is that he is a retired Captain in the United States Marines, a…
To the editor: It is my distinct pleasure to endorse my good friend Kevin Sullivan for Chatham Township Committee. Kevin continues to answer the call to serve and I have full faith that he will serve Chatham Township well. Please join me in supporting Kevin in the June 5 Republican Primary. John Murphy, Morris County Freeholder Morris Township
Dear Editor: I am proud to endorse Laura Ali Nonnenmacher for the open seat on the Chatham Township Committee in the Republican primary June 5. I have been privileged to serve on the Committee for the past five years. Working together the Committee has successfully kept taxes under control with no tax increase for the past two years while maintaining services up to the high standards expected by Township residents. Laura is a lifelong Republican who believes in limited government. I am confident she will continue the priority of the Committee when it comes to fiscal discipline. She is a small…

To the editor: On June 5, 2012, Republican voters in Chatham Township will vote to select our party’s nominee for the open seat on the Chatham Township Committee formerly held by Kevin Tubbs. We should strongly support Kevin Sullivan, who will uphold Chatham Township’s record of fiscal discipline and responsiveness to our residents. Kevin already serves our community on the Township’s Planning Board and has coached a variety of sports for Chatham Recreation. Kevin is an active member of St. Patrick Parish, where he is a member of the Knights of Columbus, a founder and director of the St. Pat…
