A New York man was issued a summons for careless driving when the truck he was driving struck the New Jersey Transit overpass bridge on Fairmount Avenue Thursday.

Patrolman Roy George of the Chatham Borough Police Department investigated the crash at 7:23 a.m. Thursday, police said.

George found that a 2010 International truck, driven by Angel Escalera, 39, of Lake Grove, N.Y. was traveling south along Fairmount Avenue when the cargo on his truck struck the overpass, according to police.

In addition to the carelss driving summons, Escalera cleaned up the debris and was released.
