JCP&L says that only 400 or so customers in Chatham Borough will be back by the end of the weekend and about 3,500 will be restored in the Township during the same time. I understand that there are more customers in Township and that they need to get their power on as well, but why such a disparity? Seems like the Borough is not getting the appropriate attention. Where are the Borough officials and the Mayor on all this? Have they issued any statements about progress in the Borough of restoration. What are the issues that will prevent more homes from being turned on this weekend in the Borough?

Bruce Harris has been missing, have not received a single piece of communication from him. I have received constant alerts fromMadison, Chatham Township, Summit, but nothing or some long pdf links from the borough which are redic to receive when folks don't have electricity/internet to open. disappointed with the mayor, trying to avoid responsibility

Bring back Vaughan!!

While its important that the power is restored to these two polling locations before Tuesday, did anyone notice that these two locations are public schools....how about some focus on whether the power will be restored so that these K-3 schools can open on Monday! Where are the priorities?

Lack of info from TWP officials deplorable.Go to Westfield's Patch & read updates, letters,from their leaders.They are even having a townwide conference call tonite.All we get is " we wont pick up your tree debris,& the cops phones are out". Thanks for nothing.

The borough's communication after the storm has been poor. Today is the first day they are posting anything substantial in the way of information, and that is 5 days after the event. As others have pointed out, other towns have been doing much better. That and the "one step forward' two steps back" situation on the power outages,ie power outages in the borough have been increasing not decreasing, seems to indicate that our borough leaders are simply not on top of the situation, ie they are not doing the job we elected them to do.

I subscribed to NJALERT, as suggested by the Star Ledger prior to the storm. I entered my 07928 zip and have received regular updates ( at least 4 dozen) from Summit, Madison, and a few from Chatham Twp., but Chatham Boro, my home, had not posted a word. Has the Boro not joined the network, which conveniently sends texts regarding power being restored to certain streets, shelters, places to get warm or recharge, etc.? I am more than disgruntled by the lack of info from our local government. And that quasi apology from C Nauta is a bit late, don't you think?

They have nothing useful to say as far as I can see. Nixle is a good site to register with for constant updates but no, Chatham Boro does not subscribe to it. I get news about Madison and the Twsp and that's it.

Is there a coordinator of emergency management in the township? Two years in a row and we haven't learned anything? Haven't seen anything going on in the Rolling Hill section.

The Twsp is doing better than you might think. Their Nixle texted out that 75% will be restored tonight and 93% by midnight Sunday. The Office of Emergency Management is headed by Chief John Paton. No email address listed for him on the site.

Right, that means 25% of the Boro is out of power, then the rest of the columns show that (0) zero were restored today, 9% restored tomorrow and 18% restored Sunday..for a total of 27% restored? BUT when you look at the other numbers..there are 920 without power and only 249 of those to be restored by Sunday...I'm no math whiz, but those don't jive, right?

November 3, 2012From the Chatham Borough Mayor and Council Dear Resident: Those of us without power all have the same question – “When is power going to be restored to my home?”  Many of you have seen the utility crews in town and have had your power restored – and many of you (like several of us) remain without power.   The official word from JCP&L is that it expects to have power restored to almost everyone by Wednesday.  As we get more information, we’ll let you know.  In the interim, we have established warming and recharging centers.  For more information on the centers and other storm related information, please see the Borough web site at
www.chathamborough.org. The current power situationJCP&L and out-of-state utility crews have been working in the Borough the past few days.  (We have been feeding the crews so that they can spend more time working and less time finding food.)  Some of the crews were moved today to other towns that had not yet seen any utility personnel, but we were able to get JCP&L to get crews working in town again today. 
As many of you know, most of the downtown area did not lose power, along with a few other areas. At the present time

At the present time, power has been restored to much of the east end of the Borough and the Lafayette section.  Most of the Manor section (generally the area north of Main St. and west of N. Passaic) remains without power, along with portions of Garden Avenue, Ellers Drive and the adjacent streets, portions of the area bounded by Watchung Avenue, Edgehill Avenue, Lafayette Avenue and Longwood Avenue, River Rd. and the adjacent streets,  Red Rd., Fuller Avenue, Dempster Rd., Pihlman Place, Bridge St., Overlook Road and portions of Hillside Avenue, Lincoln Avenue, Orchard Rd., Chatham St., Maple St., and Edgehill Avenue.  Because the situation is fluid, and JCP&L does not provide precise information, this is based on our own field surveys taken earlier today.
Utility crews will be returning to the Borough on Sunday.  Two areas of focus will be restoring power to the Washington Avenue School and Milton Avenue School and adjacent areas in preparation for the reopening of the schools and for Tuesday’s elections. Schools
As most of you know, the School District has indicated it will decide Sunday evening whether to have school on Monday. TransportationThe Governor’s office has indicated that the Department of Transportation will provide detailed information on transit options on Sunday. No time for the restoration of rail service has been announced yet.  Among other sources,

 Halloween Trick-or-TreatingThe Governor has postponed trick-or-treating to Monday, November 5th.  However, the Borough’s emergency management team intends to determine on Sunday whether it feels it will be safe for children to be doing this given the debris and downed wires.
 Brush Clean-upThe Department of Public Works will start a brush clean-up on Monday, November 5th.  Please see the Borough web site for more information, including guidelines regarding what is and is not acceptable.
