Why are we even polling this wake up people B.O.E. made right decision.......

As the saying goes - be careful for what you wish for!

How long is too long? That's a question all of us will face one day. When the coach is no longer able to meet the vigorous physical demands of the job, when he can no longer 'take the ice' with his players, then perhaps it's time. Having watched the Cougars over the past two seasons it was quite obvious that this young coach was much more than an able bodied assistant. During the games, the players looked to him for strategy and direction. Coach Cohen was still in charge, but functioned more as a General Manager than a Head Coach. Coach Gilberti has waited his turn, he has been a sucessful high school head coach before, and I'm sure given the quality of this program, he will be again. In retrospect, Coach Cohen should have left after reaching the pinnacle of NJ Hockey. He would have went out on top as a legend in NJ high school hockey. Instead, he wanted one more year, then one more after that. Who knows how long that would have gone on? The board acted rationally, objectively and in the best interest of the school district and the program.

The fact that you even posted this question is absurd. This is possibly the worst news reporting website ever constructed. The writing is literally god awful, consistantly filled with grammatical errors and spelling mistakes, not to mention the article choices are in poor taste and at times classless.

This is a no brainer and a 7-0 Vote proves that. I've played for Coach Gilberti and he is exactly what the program needs. He is knowledgeable, understanding, passionate and most of all he cares about ALL of his players. All younger players that aren't in high school yet should 100% attend CHS. Coach Gilberti has a vision and ALL the players who reside in Chatham are going to want to be a part of it.  I am grateful for all that he has done for me and continues to do for me. Best of luck. Success is imminent. 

Absolutely no question. The right choice was made and it's pretty clear that Frank Gilberti has been the one running the show the last few years while Cohen took the credit for everything. Thank you BOE for making this call and also for doing us all a favor by not having to see that god awful denim shirt anymore!

Frank Gilberti had done most of the work in the last few years and deserved to get this position.

HC has driven away elite players for years with his boy scout mentality. Hopefully our players and parents will now realize that we have a hockey coach who will teach our kids how to win on and off the ice. There have been multiple players who have elected to go the perochial route to play their HS hockey becuase they simply did not want to play for this putz. For the last 10 years, players and parents a like have wanted this to happen. Unfortunately, the fear was that anyone who spoke up against HC would face his consequences. He was the coach/AD for years and had no one to answer to. He knew he had it good and decided to play the political game instead of coaching hockey and teaching the game properly. Good riddance. Great Hire. Let's go Chatham.

100% the right decision. Coach Gilberti is the future of the program, very good coach and more importantly a very good man.

Coach Gilberti cares about young people, and his door will always be. open.

Whether or not Coach Cohen should have retired, been rehired, or fired was not our decision to make nor should it be discussed/polled on this forum where you post extremely negative comments and hide behind your user names. I can only hope that all of you work in a job for 30+ years to then be let go and then subsequently bashed on a web site. Did any of you EVER think of how Coach Cohen would feel reading such comments - or do you even ever care about how your words can hurt another person. Shame on all of you! So much for Chatham being comprised of well educated people who know how to behave because all of you have proven how uncaring you truly are!

Coach Frank will be a great asset for the team as head coach he knows the game and how to win

I'm curious as to why all the posts in favor of Coach Cohen's firing are here and the ones that are negative for Coach Gilberti are left in the "pending" site and not posted with the rest. Funny how that works in Chatham.

Coach Cohen did a lot for Chatham hockey. I really wish him well. He had a great career, but Coach Gilberti is one of the best young coaches in the state. Any knowledgeable hockey person saw that Coach Gilberti handled the tactical part of the game the last few years, including in the State Championship season. Chatham is in a great place for the future with Gilberti as the Head Coach.

Well nigsmans back!!!! How do you think coach Gilberti felt when the team wins a state championship & then the cameras & the awards went right to Harvey, only to have Harvey not mention that Gilbertis contributions helped the team achieve those goals!

Actually what's been stated are facts, Wendy. This is a poll and discussion board of people's opinions which are pretty one sided - not sure why you take it so personally???? And if you really knew Chatham, I'm pretty sure you wouldn't be defending Coach Cohen as he's a pretty vindictive fellow - but seems he's pulled the wool over your eyes as well. I don't...that wasn't my point at all! If you read my comment I said that it wasn't our decision to make and that I find it pathetic that all of you feel the need to berate another individual in a public forum and hide behind your screen name like "deal with it" . So, thanks for making a negative comment about Coach Cohen - guess, I will stick with my original statement.

Well I'm not hiding my name! Everyone knows me Wendy. And I read your post & I understand you were worried about Harveys feelings, now I want to ask you Wendy, was Harvey worried about coach Gilbertis feelings when he did not mention him at all after the state championship & after coach of the year? Especially when it was Gilbertis new style of coaching and his determination that helped the boys get that far that year. If this Harvey was such a stand up guy he would've had Gilberti next to him for every honerable mention after that season!

Correct Wendy, Coach Cohen is in the annals of N.J.. hockey. I am assuming there is a misspelling here. You"ve added an additional N in annals.
