Watchung Avenue Bridge Struck By Truck Again

NY man issued a summons for careless driving.

After nearly a month of inactivity, the Watchung Avenue overpass bridge was struck by a driver on Tuesday, Sept. 25.

Patrolman Roy George with the Chatham Borough Police Department investigated the accident on Watchung Avenue at the New Jersey Transit overpass at about 11:50 a.m. on Sept. 25, police said.

George found a truck driven by Wilfredo Cadiz, 60, of Flushing, N.Y., attenpted to pass underneath the bridge, but became lodged because the truck was too tall, according to police.

Cadiz was able to back out from underneath the bridge, police said.

Police issued Cadiz a summons for careless driving, according to police.

The bridge was previously struck six times in July and August.

Square peg, round hole. I wonder what happens to the structural integrity of a bridge when it has been hit dozens of time by passing vehicles. Hmmmmm.
