Chatham Native Makes Strong Pitch with Bears
Since his return to New Jersey, Mike Ness has been strong on the mound, including throwing a no-hitter for pro baseball team.
Growing up in Chatham, Mike Ness loved the New York Yankees and he loved baseball. Through hard work and great skill, Ness has realized his childhood dream: To play professional baseball.
After playing ball in North Carolina, Ness has returned to New Jersey as a starting pitcher for the Newark Bears. The right hander is 7-2 with an ERA oif 3.43 with the Bears this season.
Ness played high school baseball for Seton Hall Preparatory School in West Orange, where he was all-state and all-county as a senior, and played AAU baseball for Warren. In college, he played baseball for Duke University and had stints in the minor leagues in New York and California.
The Newark Bears are in the Can-Am League and play at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium, 450 Broad St. in Newark.
