  5. You need to know about John Chapman: Better known as Johnny Appleseed, Chapman was born in Massachussetts and introduced apple trees to Ohio, Illinois and Indiana. One common misconception about Johnny Appleseed is that he randomly planted apple seeds everywhere he went. In reality, he planned and planted orderly nursuries with seeds he obtained free of charge from cider mills. Today, March 11, is Johnny Appleseed Day.
