Borough Council President to Resign in April

Len Resto has taken a new job that will relocate him to Malvern, Pa.

Chatham Borough Council President Len Resto announced Tuesday he will resign from his elected position in April.

Resto told members of the Community Garden Committee, to which he serves as council liaison, and gardeners he has taken a job as director of Risk Management for Endo Pharmaceuticals in Malvern, Pa.

The job will force him to relocate to Pennsylvania, making him ineligible to hold local office in Chatham Borough.

"It's hard to say goodbye to the council," Resto said, but he said he is excited for the new job, in which he will work for a former supervisor.

Resto, 62, said he does not intend to sell his house on Center Avenue and will return to Chatham Borough when he retires in two to five years.

Resto is the son of Puerto Rican immigrants. He was born in Jersey City. In 2009 he was elected to his first three-year term on the Chatham Borough Council as a Republican and was re-elected in 2012. In the 2013 reorganization meeting he was unanimously voted in as Council President.

Resto's last council meeting will be Monday, April 8. The council will interview and appoint an interim member of the council to take his place after his resignation becomes formal.
