BOE to Vote on LAS Vice Principal's Resignation
Bryan Fleming will join the Mountain Lakes school district
The Board of Education of the School District of the Chathams is expected to approve the resignation of Lafayette Avenue School Assistant Principal Bryan Fleming.
Fleming has been at LAS for the past five years. He was unanimously appointed to the role of principal Briarcliff Middle School in Mountain Lakes earlier this month. The role begins in July.
Tom Belding, the president of Chatham's school board, said Fleming is "pursuing a very nice opportunity," and like Chatham High School Vice Principal George Alexis, who also resigned recently, "we can only presume they both decided it was the right time in their careers to make a move. It is also a tribute to Chatham, and our reputation," Belding said.
Fleming is the fifth administrator to resign in recent months. The board also hired a new assistant superintendent, a new athletic director for Chatham High School and a new principal for Chatham Middle School.
The board has yet to find and approve a replacement for Alexis. For that position, Belding said, "we will conduct thorough searches, looking within the district as well as outside."
Assistant Superintendent Dr. Michael LaSusa, who takes over as superintendent effective July 1, said the end of the school year is often a time for staff members to consider other positions. "Last year was kind of a quiet year," LaSusa said, with no major departures except for the resignation of Superintendent James O'Neill.
The Board of Education meets at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Chatham Township Municipal Building. A full copy of the agenda can be found in the Photos & Documents section of this article.
