Apple Slices Recalled At McDonalds, Burger King, WaWa, Wegmans
A New Jersey Company is recalling almost 300,000 cases of packaged products that contain sliced and diced apples.
Missa Bay, LLC, is recalling a total of 293,488 cases and 296,224 individually distributed units of fruit, vegetable, and sandwich products containing apples because they might be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes which can cause fever, muscle aches and gastro intestinal symptoms such as nausea and diarrhea.
The recalled foods containing diced or sliced apples have use-by dates of July 8, 2012 through August 20, 2012, the Swedesboro, NJ company said.
Only the specific products identified in the list below are included in the recall.
Those consumers who may have purchased the affected product are asked to record the Use-by date and/or UPC code number, immediately dispose of the product, and contact the Ready Pac Consumer Affairs Department, toll-free at (800) 800-7822, Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Pacific Time) to obtain a full refund.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious or life-threatening food borne illness in a person who eats a food item contaminated with it. Symptoms of infection may include fever, muscle aches, gastro intestinal symptoms such as nausea or diarrhea. The illness primarily impacts pregnant women and adults with weakened immune systems. Most healthy adults and children rarely become seriously ill. No illnesses have been reported in association with this voluntary recall.

Um, really, Michael? Who are the 'libs' here? Ready Pac Foods, Inc.(Missa Bay Limited Liability Corp.)? Ronald McDonald? The Burger King? Seems to me that 'free market' corner-cutters are trying to poison us here, and Big Government (U.S. FDA) has to clean up their mess to protect us unwitting consumers. Why didn't Ronald and the King step up and be responsible on their own initiative?

I believe Michael is referring to Michelle Obama's anti-Happy-Meal edict *mandating* those apple slices. And he's using the same logic the Obama campaign used to indict Mitt Romney for the death of Joe Soptic's wife.

Chris, I assume you're being sarcastic, because the apple slices have been part of McDonalds menu before Obama was in office. Fellow Republicans, we need to get our act together! The back-and-forth I've been hearing lately is stupid and childish. A stronger Republican candidate would have, long ago, countered with intelligence. Now, we have a couple of bully's in a playground...perhaps Christie would have been the better VP candidate! ...and I don't want to hear that 'any Republican is better than Obama'. Stupid, stupid, stupid commentary. I've even heard Mark Levin say that a "...can of orange juice is better than this president..." How silly....Republican's, get your act together.

Chis, I will bet you that 70 percent of Democrats don't even know who Saul Alinsky was and wouldn't have even heard the name if you idiot no nothings didn't bring him up. In fact he was a labor organizer and social activist who worked to bring fairness and bettter conditions to working people. Obviously that would go against your talk radio, Faux News mentality. You must in fairness also talk about Ryans greatest influence comming from the Pro-Choice, anti-family, Russian atheist, Ayn Rand who Ryan himself claimed to be his guiding light. I don't know if Obama has made his staff read Rules for Radicals, I suspect he hasn't but it has been reported that until Ryan very recently found out who Ayn Rand really was he made his staff read her for motivation. It is all part of your lying Party.

Have you ever read Fountainhead, Atlas Shrugged or The Virtue of Selfishness, Dan? I think if you opened your mind and read what Ayn Rand's philosophy was, you wouldn't make these innane remarks. The government cannot fix all our problems. Self reliance, self respect, ingenuity and self confidence can. Human nature is motivated by selfishness -- and that's not a bad thing. People give to charity, why? Because they want to help people but also because it makes them feel good. People want to work hard and prosper - why? Because they want to pass good things onto their family, they want to be recognized for their hard work....all selfish but not bad things. That's the crux of what Ayn Rand is all about. The government steps in and squashes self-relilance, ingenuity and innovation. When has the governement EVER done something better than the private sector? We need government don't get me wrong -- but govt should be something in the background of our lives - not telling us how much & what to eat, where to live, where to send our kids to school, what to set our thermostat at, how much money we can & can't earn! Why would you want to give so much control to the government?? Could it be because you can't make it on your own? Are you jealous of people who achieve (those evil hated 'RICH') This debate is on -- and November 6th can't come quickly enough.

The one and most important thing to acknowledge is that in the end Ayn Rand, the voice of self-reliance went on government assistance. The whole Right Wing agenda is fatally flawed. But I have to give them credit. No matter how many times they are proven wrong they stick to the same story and want to do it all over again.

Chris if you want to personalize this than at least have the nerve to post your full name. I am not jealous at all. Infact most people who choose careers which are limited in the ability to make money are people like teachers, nurses, religious leaders police and Firepeople and I don't think any of them are jealous or to use the current Conservative nonsense "hate the rich." We just don't want to have our security or a fair wage stolen from us. Clearly you have never heard of the CCC or the WPA or the Homestead Act where government gave free land to people so they could use their Self reliance and ingenuity and hard work but it all started from a "Handout" from the Government. Maybe you haven't heard about the GI Bill that brought our college educated population from 6 percent to twenty percent.

Ditto Bellair -- I guess the Carter years proved nothing as did the prosperity of Ronald Regean. So what she went on govt. assistance. I went on unemployment for four months once. No one said there should be NO government assistance -- you'd think we live in the 1920s and there were no social programs in place! There is plenty of government assistance available. The debate is, do you want the govt. growing to such a size that it takes over every aspect of your life? Total federal government debt is almost at 16 trillion dollars -- the CBO is now saying the federal debt is going to exceed 70 percent of GDP by the end of this year! I just don't get what your point is? What's been proven wrong besides liberal, big government spending doesn't work! A recession hasn't lasted this long since the Great Depression because the policies in place right now have created an unfriendly business climate -- no one is hiring! They can't get loans to keep their biz aflloat because of increased regulations, they are worried about increased taxes hence no hiring- are we going to do THIS all over again? Growth should be at 6%, not 2% -- we have had recessions many times before and rebounded at a much faster rate. Maybe I'm talking over your head -- read slowly, try to digest. This debate is too important. I really hope people who automatically refuse to see what is going on in this country try to expand their thought process -- don't just be lead by your emotions.

Don't worry chris. I'm quite tall. When you talk out of your butt it does not go over my head. But thanks for caring. If you really want to look at Reagan and how people have fared, only the very wealthy have prospered. Everyone else has been stagnant or losing. Bush gave the wealthy the lowest taxes in years. Why were no jobs created? Lower taxes mean jobs, right? Why do Republicans demand security for employers yet are equally adamant that employees have no security?
Ayn Rand is a fake. Every Republican politician that wants to end Obamacare and has their adult children on their insurance plans are fakes. Every Republican that said the Stimulus didn't create jobs then were filmed in their districts touting their job creations are fakes. But you're right. You shouldn't be led by your fears or emotions. BTW what law tells you what temp to keep your home or what to eat?

Money hungrey people who don't give two cares what happens to the people of our country.....
Actually I do, more than you will ever know. And what's happening to our country is frightening. This post backed into the conversation, but I'm not sorry it did. This country was founded on an idea of freedom and it is being eroded so badly. I want to see this preserved. Democrats love to demonize the GOP and say they don't care about people. Yet you have a President in place whose policies are crushing the people of this country. Look at unemployment numbers. The GOP doesn't care about women? Obama doesn't care -- unemployment among women is at 14%! I want everyone to have the opportunity to make money -- tons of it if they chose to! I don't begrudge people making lots of money, why should you? Envy? Remember this -- the poor in this country live infinitely better than the poor in any other place on earth! If a rich person goes on vacation, buys a new car, a new home, a new wardrobe -- someone has to provide all those goods & services that go along with it. Travel agents, designers, retail stores, car companies, mechanices...the list goes on & on! That's what fuels this economy! Nothing in this world comes for free, unless you are looking for a govt. handout. But particularly THAT is not free -- it comes at a huge price, and this country hopefully wakes up and realizes what that is in time.

Chris In your first post , you stated " No one said there should be No government assistance " and then BellairBerden wrote that Ayn Rand went on government assistance . Don't think he didn't read and understand what you wrote . He just didn't like what you wrote .3,000,000 New Jerseyans make $34,300 or less, and their take home pay is shrinkig. 30% of working people rely on food stamps ,up from 19% in 1990. There has been an enormous increase in childhood poverty, ALL OVER. 75% of all the new wealth created in the last decade has gone to the top 20%; families earning 132k or more . When I ask people who are thriving in this environment { People who are paid exclusively by tax dollars } if they can see a connection between the decline of one group and the rise of another , there is no response . The public schools have a mandated Character Curriculum. What more proof do people need to see that the Governrnent wants total control of our lives . To many people, terms like self- reliance and freedom to choose and self - determination are anathema .Not only are they thriving economically ,but they are imposing their will on people they are extremely contempuous of . Read the criticisms of vouchers by people with a vested interest :" People can be mislead . They are easily duped .They are easily deceived " They assign the failure to educate millions of children to one word ; demograhics Chris, you are 100% right. OBVIOUSLY , for many people , that's the problem ..

ideally i believe in little governtment however i believe some people are too dumb or greedy for that to work.
if a child is born with crappy parent who feeds it soda and fast food all day, should that be the parents choice? should this child be born into a life where he is going to be obese and unhealthy because of his parents dont know how to properly feed it?
if i child is born into a poor family and the dad skips out, should everyone turn a blind eye and let the kid go hungry with no clothes? the kid didnt do anything wrong but he has to suffer because he was born into poverty?
what happens when businesses arent monitered? people are greedy and to save some money they bury batteries in fields, hire cheap labor. should we just let them keep polluting or treat workers unfairly?

Good points big man. Let's take a look at your first point. Do you think social services does its job well? How many times do we hear about children who were horribly abused who also had social workers coming to their homes routinely. I think people HAVE to be involved especially when it comes to the welfare of children. I think neighbors, friends, family can all get involved and watch for signs. One of the best things I was ever involved in was being a Big Sister -- I think that's a great program. Keep in mind, I am not advocating NO government assistance. The question is how much? We are a big industrialized natiion, we're not Denmark. What works there will never work here. And it's a sad but true fact that in a free republic there will be winners and there will be losers. But I guarantee you the losers will live a lot better here than anywhere else. And what about all the people born into poverty and horrible situations that rose above it, without the governement? I don't trust the government to do it well! I think when people have ownership, a sense of pride & responsibility for something, that's when they thrive, not thru a government handout. It's human nature and to deny that is futile. Just because I don't believe the government is omnipotent, I still want to help my neighbor!

thanks for the reply and you make some good points.
i do believe greed is a major issue when it comes to business. if taxes were cut in half i still think companies would out source there jobs just to maximize thier profit even if it hurts the country. for this reasoning i also believe businesses must be regulated so they dont pollute and cause harm. and look how many billionaires cheat the tax system even though they could easily afford it. that is my problem with the "trickle down" effect, most people with money dont want to share it, they want more. even now instead of putting money into the economy they rather sit on it until they get thier way, even though its hurting america
chris

What I am saying is, you have to create incentive. But even if people "sit on their money" they are not hiding it in a shoe box, they are probably investing! That spurs on the economy because investing in companies helps businesses grow. If iI make widgets and it costs 10 cents to make a widget in the U.S vrs. 1 cent in mexico, and all my competitors are making widgets in mexico or china or wherever, I am going to make widgets overseas. I'd go out of business otherwise. I just believe you have to provide incentive, not punish companies for doing what they have to to stay competitive. I will say this, I think big unions are killing this country. I think there was a time when they were needed, but now they have become an arm of the democrat party and do very little actually to help workers. Look, i"m not saying run a sweatshop, but if the federal government gets out of the way a little bit, it frees up entrepeneurs to do what Americans do best -- create and prosper. Not everyone is evil. There are some bad apples, yes, but I think the way successful people in this country are getting demonized is a crime. Joe Biden gives absolutely NOTHING to charity, yet Mitt Romney gives 15-20% of his income to charity, Obama 1% and you never hear that. He's got a ton of money but he certainly doesn't have to give that much.

Do you regard parking money in offshore bank accounts "investing"? If you make widgets and no one earns enough money to buy your widget it doesn't matter where you make them -- you will go out of business because there is no market for your widgets. DEMAND is what creates jobs, not stuffing the pockets of those who already have more than they can spend in 1000 lifetimes.

Dan You're not using that "Teachers cops and firemen could make alot more in the private sector "crap, are you ? If a teacher wants the big bucks ,quit, and become the CEO of a Fortune 500 company. Just remember teacher, if you screw up, you can't blame the parents and customers ,and you can't use demographics as the reason for failure. Ah, but teaching is "a calling " So be a CEO,and be a volunteer after school tutor, or a reading coach ,or a mentor , or work with people who are impisoned. Teach Sunday School,Bible study etc. If you're a cop who wants to be a Captain of Industry, do so , and join an auxilary police force. If you're a fireman who wants the really big bucks ,start your own software company and join a volunteer fire brigade.Dan,the argument has trended upward . Since a veteran cop and teacher can easily make way over $300k- salaries ,longevity pay ,overtime , coaching, mentoring , summer employment , MOONLIGHTING ,we now have to say they could make alot more money at largely fictitious jobs , or jobs they could never qualify for ,or we carefully cherry pick and point to a handful of exceptional people engaged in what are generally not high paying occupations .Teachers come early and stay late ,they go above and beyond, cops and fireman are in danger and under great stress, and they do energy sapping shift work in every kind of weather imaginable .I AGREE. Taking jobs from their employers { moonlighting, ] should be banned , for their sake and ours.

John, you aren't using that "everyone can be in the top 1 percent crap" are you? Because that 1 percent isn't ever going to be more than 1 percent. There is no support for any teacher or cop making over $300,000 except some anecdotal cases of buy outs of 30 or 40 years of sick time and CEO's no longer have to take any risks. When they fail they seem to get huge buy outs to get rid of them then they can run for Public Office on their failures and claim they know the ecconomy because of their business experience. Carly Fiorino almost drove Hewlet Packard into the ground and got $10 million to leave. My brother in law worked for them for 35 years and he got laid off and lost his pension in their restructuring. That is a real life example of the kind of Capitalism that is being pushed by the Romney's of the world. We are a long way from poison apples now in this discussion but it is all a part of what the Republican Party stands for. Hundreds of Millions of Americans are going to spend their lives working for a paycheck. A handfull of people comparatively speaking spend their lives trying to take a bite of that check and they are the ones winning the war right now.

You have no idea how much Mitt gives to Charity because he hasn't released his taxes. The one year he showed he gave 10 percent but by his religion he has to and remember he is a Bishop in the Mormon Church. That isn't the measure anyway. The real question about his taxes was did he take advantage of the amnesty given to the fellons who hid overseas accounts from the Government. What his statement also shows is the myth of the rich paying too much in taxes. He has now said that he paid no less than 13 percent in "Taxes". Why should we believe him? He has shown an ability to flip flop on any core values he may have had at one time. The idea that Bain Capital was an entrepeneurial enterprise is laughable. They were sharks looking for a weak business that they could promise support for and then loot and break all their promises often at tax payer expense. Perry had it right when he called it Vulture Capitalism. These are not people who built a better mousetrap or discovered a better way of doing things. He isn't a Henry Ford. What he did needed no consumer support which is what we are sadly lacking now. Obama is trying to build up that middleclass that provides the consumer support for the ecconomy. The rest of it is just blue smoke and mirrors.
