AP Art Class to Replace Vandalized Cougar

Chatham High School Principal Darren Groh said the cougar's resting place won't be vacant for long.

Darren Groh, the principal at , said the Advanced Placement Art class will have a big project waiting for them when school starts on Thursday, Sept. 6.

"Our AP art students will be working on a new cougar in the fall," Groh said, to replace the one which used to stand in front of the high school doors.

The cougar, a mosaic tile art project completed by art students in previous years, was reported vandalized on Wednesday, June 20.

Patrolman Kelly Sretenovic noticed the head of the cougar broken off from the main statue and laying in pieces on the ground while on patrol at about 2:30 a.m. June 20.

According to the police report, Sretenovic also noticed "broken Corona beer bottles and spilt beer on the ground near the front entrance [of the high school] and [the] statue."
